Sonic Team boss interested in a Sonic Adventure remake.

Sonic Adventure is now over 20 years old!

It was quite a showpiece for the Dreamcast when it launched and was the first proper 3D Sonic game released that was stunning graphically. I still think it's quite a fun game but it does show its age. Animations are very clunky as games from the 90s were and there are other minor problems such as the camera and glitches. It doesn't look smooth even when bumped up to 1080p like the remastered version for PS3/360 or on PC.

Speaking with Retro Gamer, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka said he believes the first Sonic Adventure “is a unique game offering even 20 years after its release.” At the same time though, he “can see the rough edges it has, which really makes me want to remake it again.”

Iizuka stated:

“It was the first highspeed 3D action game that also featured a scenario highlighted with six different stories, the A-life Chao, six unique styles of gameplay – it is a unique game offering even 20 years after its release. At the time, it also wasn’t just a solitary software release, it was the title to bring people to the Dreamcast and we were given the budget to make something to showcase the hardware. However, it was the very first 3D game that we worked on and looking at it now I can see the rough edges it has, which really makes me want to remake it again.”

I don't think this will happen anytime soon but it does seem like something they may visit in the future. With the recent success of Crash, Spyro, and Ratchet & Clank remakes it kinda is a no brainer they would look into this. Would you like it to be a 1:1 remake like Crash N Sane Trillogy or more of a reimagining like Ratchet & Clank? Let us know in the forum!

Whale Lagoon Track coming to TSR!

Last month, SEGA shared the unfortunate news that their upcoming mascot racer would be delayed into 2019, but the publisher is ready to share another new glimpse at the arcade title.

As shown off in the trailer below, the aquatic-themed Whale Lagoon map will be one of the various maps available to race around in Team Sonic Racing. While the video doesn’t show the track in motion, it does highlight the track’s background music, a remix of the “Seaside Hill” piece from Sonic Heroes.

Team Sonic Racing launches on May 21 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.

Sonic Team Racing Delayed to May 21, 2019

The official Sonic Twitter announced today that Sonic Team Racing will in fact be delayed until May 21st, 2019.

This shouldn't be too terribly surprising as we've not heard anything in regards to the game for over a month along with the recent Russian article depicting it releasing next year. A solid date is nice though. Time will tell if this also affects the comic tie in but as of right now, it's still set to release Dec 19, 2018

Joe Hughes Exits IDW, Year 2 Comic Info

Joe Hughes, recruited by IDW to run the Sonic franchise in July 2017, has left the company. The announcement was made on the Facebook group IDW Sonic Comics Squad. IDW’s David Mariotte penned the bulletin. Promoting himself as an associate editor on his Twitter bio, It is not clear whether he has been appointed lead editor role, but the announcement claims he will now be involved with the production, along with Megan Brown, who is now on the Sonic comic team as an associate.

No announcement has been made on IDW’s official website nor has anybody on the Sonic comic writing or art team has remarked on the departure either. Hughes was brought in to lead the relaunch of the Sonic comics under the IDW label but has only lasted through the publication of nine issues. As part of the announcements, issue 10’s release is now delayed to Halloween.

According to IDW, though, year two of the comics will have a very exciting future!

IDW announced at NYCC that Sonic The Hedgehog #13 will be an extra-length issue to bring readers up to speed leading into their second year of publishing. “Year two is going to be huge for Sonic,” says editor David Mariotte. “We are upping the stakes with more villains, more adventures, and a new threat that’ll loom over the whole 2019 calendar!”

To start, Sonic takes a break after the momentous Battle of Angel Island. When Tails receives a mysterious tip that a friend has disappeared, he and Sonic race off into a brand-new adventure that’ll put them face-to-face and nose-to-nose with some old foes!

Team Sonic Racing: TGS/EGX RECAP!

We had Team Sonic Racing appearing at both TGS and EGX this past weekend! Here are some facts we learned from the two conventions.

Sega Genesis Classics coming to Switch too

Sega announced on Twitter that Sega Genesis Classics will be coming to Switch this winter. The compilation was previously released on PS4/Xbox One and was based on the semi-recent overhaul the collection got on Steam.

Here I thought the collection skipped Switch because Switch was getting the Sega Ages line. But apparently that ain't the case!

The compilation includes over 50 Genesis games. In terms of Sonic games it has 1, 2, 3D Blast, Spinball, and Mean Bean Machine.

And you know what that means? That means two different ports of Sonic 1 will be releasing on the same console in the same year! Hallelujah!

Sonic 2 also coming to Switch

Along with the first game, Sonic 2 has also been added to the Sega Ages lineup for Nintendo Switch. A page for the game was added to the official Japanese website. From what I can eke out of Google Translate, features include:

  • The ability to use the drop dash from Sonic Mania. This is also being included in Sonic 1.
  • Time attack mode with online leaderboards.
  • Ring keep mode, which allows you to hold on to some rings after being hit.
  • Super Sonic mode, which starts Sonic out with 50 rings and all chaos emeralds. This is carried over from the 3DS release.

Other games announced for the lineup include:

  • Space Harrier
  • OutRun
  • Columns II -- This hasn't really gotten a home release before and also never left Japan
  • Thunder Force AC -- The arcade version of Thunder Force III, which received a number of adjustments

Sonic 1 is set to release on the 20th of this month.
