Sonic Makes Me Sick! - Zifei 11:44pm CST, 12-31-98 |
That's what a minor portion of the gamers are saying after playing Sonic for 20 minutes. Here are some quotes:
Anyone else get nauseated after playing Sonic for extended periods of time? I'm sure I'll eventually adjust. But for now I have to limit my time with the game depending on how I feel.
After playing for 20 min, I almost had to shut off the tv. The game really makes me sick. But oh well, it's good game though.
Now this is considered to be a kind of motion sickness. When you watch Sonic move at such speeds, it will probably make you sick if you're one of those with motion sickness.

Ken On SSS#9! - Zifei 3:26pm CST, 12-30-98 |
Here's what Ken Penders said about Sonic Super Special #9 and a few other projects he is currently working on:
Regarding SONIC SUPER SPECIAL #9, Mike Gallagher did indeed write a Young Sally meets Young
Knuckles tale, which I co-edited and made sure it fit in with the continuity I'm working on. As for the
other stories, I had no involvement with them at all, as I'm currently at work on three other Super Specials
in addition to my other work, all of which I'm involved with on the complete books. There are no other
writers involved.
Glad to hear that, maybe now we'll actually get some more decent super specials.

Ray The Squirrel. - Ray email 5:47pm CST, 12-27-98 |
I just recieved an e-mail message from Ken Penders and he said that Ray
the Squirrel will be meeting Mighty the Armadillo on the Floating Island
and will join the Chaotix Team permenately sometime either within or
after Knuckles #26-28!
As many of you will know, Ray met both Mighty and Sonic before in the arcade game SegaSonic Arcade. Ken right now is trying to find a replacement for Charmy, this move will probably set off a few Charmy fans...

Those Humans... - Zifei 11:50pm CST, 12-24-98 |
I made this comment on if you could attack the humans in Sonic Adventure earlier today. Well, I got my answer:
When Sonic does his spin and goes by people, they duck.
Hmm...well...OK. Also, I downloaded all the in-game videos of Sonic Adventure today, there are a lot of pop-ups in the game. Especially in the orca chase. But you won't notice if you're not looking for it (and you won't be when a whale's chasing you).
|
A Detailed SA Review! - Zifei 11:43pm CST, 12-24-98 |

And Another SA Short Review... - Zifei 11:58am CST, 12-24-98 |
This game is sounding more and more fun...
At first, it seemd to be an "ok" game. the gameplay is
great, but it took me a few mins to get used to it.
there is some noticeable pop up on the game, sadly.
its very noticeable in some areas. also, the camera
sometimes doesnt position itself right, so you have to
be messing with it manually. (R L shifts spins camera
around, digital D pad is used to look around)
the first two stages were good. I liked them, but was
kind of not too impressed. then I got to the "wind"
stage, and, was blown away (litteraly hehe). that
stage had me on the edge of my bed, with all kinds of
twists, spins, even playing upside down. there was a
big tornado following me, wich took up the whole
screen, and looked amazing.
Then I went back to the city (the stage you start in)
and there were people walking down the streets, cars
rolling up and down the streets, and it was dawn.
the longer I played, the darker it got, untill it was
night time. I stepped infront of a car, and it
suddenly stopped, and more cars kept stopping until
there was a traffic jam!
After seeing that, I know what to expect from the
following stages. but I need to play longer. at least
past the wind stage.
This review came from shadowblade. Traffic jam eh? I wonder if you could actually get hit by a car...or try to attack the people.

All The SA Complaints So Far. - Zifei 11:39am CST, 12-24-98 |
All the complaints about Sonic Adventure so far: too fast, some pop ups in the Windy Valley level, and some of the camera angles. And keep in mind that's only coming from a few people. A lot of other people see it this way:
I don't think the game is too fast, it's Sonic, I appreciate DC's ability to present the speed of the game.
How can you complain about speed in a Sonic game? Isn't that like complaing about having to do to much killing in Duke?
So far I haven't heard of anyone who played through the whole game with all the characters. In fact, I haven't heard anyone who even completed one character...just to show you the size of this game. Also, mini-games are very fun, according to all the talking on the Sega boards and newsgroups.
|
Another Indepth SA Review... - Zifei 10:09am CST, 12-24-98 |
Of the first three levels. The reviewer is Hawkmoon. He imported. And he complaints about the speed of Sonic. He says that sometimes, when you try to turn a corner, you can't stop and run into walls (just like in Sonic R, except there, you run off the road). The first three levels took him 6 hours, and that's only 25% of the game. Click here to read it!
|
Indepth SA Review... - Zifei 10:33pm CST, 12-23-98 |
Of the first three levels in Sonic Adventure: Emerald Coast, Windy Valley, and Casino. This review came from a French gamer named Teck. The review is from Sega2000. Click here to read it!

Extra Stuff In SA. - Zifei 9:52pm CST, 12-23-98 |
Here's something from SegaNet:
Japanese gamers who have gotten their greedy paws on
Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast are happy to report that Sonic
Team has continued their tradition of including an "extras"
folder in their game CDs. Sonic Adventure's extras folder
holds a whopping 22.5 Megs of Sonic wallpaper!
According to someone else, all you have to do is use your computer CD/DVD drive to run the GD-ROM Sonic Adventure disk to get the wallpapers. And there are 10 of them.
|
Sonic Cartoons... - Cassie email 4:43pm CST, 12-23-98 |

More SA Impressions... - Zifei 12:31pm CST, 12-23-98 |
These are found on the Sega newsgroups, a few gamers I know haven't been on the net since they announced that they picked up a copy of Sonic Adventure early yesterday...
wow....just played it......my god!! What an amazing game!! I've never played such a home video game that shock me that much.....Sonic probably the game of 98 I think. The graphic, visual effects are excellent, over the top and the music and sound effect are good also. One bad point is there will be slow motion (when) a large object (Eggman's sky ship) is moving.
Yeah, Sonic is so great game. I think for slow motion with big object can acceptable. The world for Sonic is really big, and the game is running 60/frames per second with high resolution (640*480 I think), so just a few (very few) slow is totally acceptable. Anyway, this game is so great for the speed and graphic, especially the sunlight in the beach, the tornado in windy valley.
Also someone said that the part were the killer whale is chasing Sonic is very hard. "Crazy!" As he said it.
|
Sonic Commercial? - Zifei 10:07am CST, 12-23-98 |
I haven't heard about a Sonic Adventure commercial from Sega of America yet, so keep this as a rumor until confirmed. But here's an interesting quote from the Sega newsgroup:
Did anyone catch the Sonic Adventure commercial? There was one on yesterday
(saturday). I didn't see the whole thing, except for the end where I caught a
screen shot and it saying something like "The Hedgehog is back"...pretty cool
I think, they are already advertising Sonic WOO HOO. I think DC will be a
hit...seems like SOA is doing something right with this system.
No one else have claimed that they seen this commercial. Sonic Adventure commercials should be coming in about 6-8 month from now, as the Dreamcast 9-9-99 launch nears.

Newsgroup Summary! - Vector 9:06am CST, 12-23-98 |
Recently, I have heard from everyone that the Sonic newsgroup is falling apart. It's just not interesting anymore. There is nothing new on it. So unless the newsgroup turn itself around or some freelancer willing to do the report every week for us, this is the last alt.fan.sonic-hedgehog summary you'll see on this news page. In this report, Vector talks about Sonic the Fighters, fan comics, and copyright issues. Click here to read on.

SA: First Impressions! - Zifei 9:06am CST, 12-23-98 |
Here are some first impressions on Sonic Adventure fromsome Japanese gamers on IRC, some words are changed for the younger readers:
It kicks major (behind)!
It's better than Zelda visually, it's got big, fantastic areas! (extremely) good graphics.
From my rememberances of the little previous Sonic titles I've played, nicely redone in 3D finally.
Well, so far, all the first impression are great, at least on IRC.
|
Problems In SA. - Zifei 9:32pm CST, 12-22-98 |
There are some problems with Sonic Adventure, which came out today in Japan and China. According to Next-Generation, the two main problems are:
There are two criticisms in which 3 of the 4 editors agree on. First, the game at times is so fast that it is difficult to see and play, causing unnecessary frustration on the gamer's part. Secondly, they point out that there are situations where the camera system is poorly utilized causing blind spots for the player to navigate characters through. Despite these minor shortcomings, the editors collectively agree that Sonic Adventure is the first AAA product for Dreamcast and that it shows off what Dreamcast is capable of doing.
Ha! Too fast! I like it! Now we know for sure that Sonic Adventure would promise us the experience of beinging Sonic himself, travelling at super-sonic speeds.

|
Art Gone? - Zifei 3:19pm CST, 12-21-98 |
According to Ken Penders, Art Mawhinney won't be drawing for Sonic or Knuckles for a while, here's what he said:
In the meantime, I'm finishing up the script to KNUCKLES #29, which will mark Art Mawhinney's last
Sonic and/or Knuckles story for the foreseeable future, as Art will be tied up with doing animation
storyboards
Hope Art will come back in the future. This isn't exactly good news, all the best are leaving or not drawing that much anymore. Manny is doing backups, Spaz stops drawing Knuckles covers, and Art leaves. Wonder who Archie will find to replace them.
