  • SAGE 2018: Sonic 06 PC Remake

Check out my thoughts on the Sonic 06 PC port that was at SAGE 2018 here!

SAGE 2018 has come and gone, but we're going to highlight some of the games that were showcased at the week long event! Our first game is the Sonic 06 Remake for the PC, so let's take a look at!

This is essentially a largely faithful port of Sonic The Hedgehog that was released back in 2006. It is being built on the Unity Engine however, and will include minor changes to physics and control in an effort to make the game better controlled. But the game is still going to largely resemble the original, so if you didn't like the original, you may not find much to love about this port.

Graphically, the game looks amazing on the PC. Sonic 06 was a game that was made for a highly powered device that could support high graphics. The game just might look better than it did on the Xbox 360 and PS3. One of the most noticeable differences was the lack of the blur effect during the Mach Speed section of Crisis City.

Gameplay, the game supports gamepad control, but that still needs work to configure as I spent 10 minutes of playthrough struggling to get it to work only to give up and try the game again on the keyboard. When played on the keyboard, the game plays about as smooth as the original. But the minor changes in physics makes the game a tad awkward to control at first since the level designs were not designed that way. But, the game still overall plays at least as good as Sonic 06, with room for improvement available.

Overall, this is a faithful port of the original game to the PC and I'm looking forward to seeing more levels ported over. What are your thoughts on this game? Let us know in the comments section below!
