  • Mobius: 25 Years later

Ken Penders has made an announcement regarding the previously cancelled Sonic Super Special “Knuckles: 20 Years Later”. The project has been reborn with the name “Mobius:25 years Later”. The series will run separate of the main Sonic continuity in the back pages of the comic and will be pencilled by Steven Butler. The first story will be eleven pages, and the preceding ones will be six.

Source: *Ken Pender’s Comic Book Stories and Art*Full announcement from Ken Penders is as follows:

Sure the Sonic Super Special never came out, but that material is going to be incorporated into a much larger saga that will eventually see print.

As I type this, work has begun on MOBIUS: 25 YEARS LATER, which will be written and inked by yours truly and pencilled by Stephen Butler.

At the moment, we’re working on getting several segments in the can ahead of schedule as this will be featured EVERY issue. With the exception of the opening segment, which will run 11 pages, the rest of the chapters will be 6 pages.

I use the word “chapters” deliberately, as this will be the first novel-length story ever attempted in graphic form where the characters of this series are concerned. I won’t be contrained by the “4 issues equals a complete story” formula. This will be ongoing for quite some time, and probably require a recap paragraph in the letters pages for the benefit of new readers jumping on later in the story.

So why MOBIUS: 25 YEARS LATER instead of KNUCKLES: 20 YEARS LATER?

Justin and I realized that the story would be better served if we opened it up to allow for a much wider cast to be used on a broader canvas.

So how will it affect stories in the current timeline? For the most part, not much, as anything established with regards to Sonic will not stray from previously published material, nor will it impact in any way on the stories Karl, Benny and Romy will be doing.

So save a lot of question’s, the opening segment does establish Knuckles’ relationship with his daughter Lara-Su will play a major part of the proceedings, as well as providing a glimpse of several established characters and introducing some new ones.

One other thing: New readers will be able to jump on without having read a single previous issue, while longtime readers will have a wealth of history as subtext.

I’m jazzed about this already, and hope you guys will be as well.
